Each Flambeaux is individually controlled at safe low voltage by a specially
developed electronic control box known as the “Unibox”. Its function is to provide
an ignition sequence with a multi repeat facility to ensure ignition under the
majority of circumstances. The control also provides flame failure detection and the
supply to a 12 volt gas solenoid.The Unibox measures 200 x 120 x 88 and has an
IP rating of 65 assuming the glands to be fully sealed. The transformer is designed
for 230 volt 50 ~ AC and requires a switched supply. Contact Sugg Lighting for
alternative supply voltages.
The burner is manufactured in two sizes, the 115mm diameter “Medium” burner and
the 75mm “Small”. Both cover a range of flame performance with the “Small” being
applied to the physically more compact Flambeaux and a gas consumption of from 20
to 30,000 btu/h (5.9 to 8.8 kW). The “Medium” will operate over a huge range from
30 to 200,000 btu/h (8.8 to 58.6 kW) and is designed for the larger product and
more difficult weather. In general, burners with an input exceeding 50,000 btu/h are
not suitable for wall mounting. The burners can be set up for both natural gas and
LPG (propane). A 5 amp switched mains electric supply is also required.
Each burner is part of a system and will not normally be supplied separately as it must
be located within a container. This may be a bowl or cone or drum shape but is always
circular in order to provide an identical face to the direction the wind. For the same
reason the burner must always be mounted horizontally. For the best result wall
mounted torches should not exceed 5 degrees off true.
The burner chart below provides all the basic technical information the installer will
require and includes the approximate flame size in still air against the burner size and
gas consumption.
The Sugg Flambeaux are available in
three lower and two higher standard gas
ratings, designed to operate with either
Natural Gas or Propane, with a factory
set gas rate. The larger capacity versions
are intended for special high performance
applications. Details on application.
The normal supply pressure for the
standard gases used with the Flambeaux
appliances are Natural Gas 8" w.g. 20 mbar
and for Propane 14.8" w.g. 37 mbar.
